Hey there, I'm Daniel Kozusek, a 24-year-old chess coach based in Wales. With a background in sports psychology and the title of FIDE Master (FM) under my belt, I'm passionate about helping chess players of all levels enhance their skills and reach new heights. As the reigning Welsh champion in classical, rapid, and blitz formats, I bring a wealth of experience and expertise to my coaching sessions.

I recently joined the Average Joes Chess Podcast to chat about the importance of setting the right goals. Listen here: spoti.fi/3wkq4i9

Teaching experience

Over the past 10 years, my passion for chess coaching has allowed me to gain extensive experience working with individuals across all skill levels, from absolute beginners to accomplished masters. I am proud to have nurtured the talents of five students who achieved national championships in their respective age categories while also guiding others towards the prestigious titles of FIDE Master (FM) and Women's FIDE Master (WFM). Throughout my coaching journey, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with chess enthusiasts from over 20 countries, enriching my understanding of the game and fostering a global chess community. As I continue to embark on this transformative coaching adventure, I am committed to unlocking the potential within each student, instilling valuable skills, and fostering a love for chess.

Other experiences

Drawing upon my extensive experience and qualification in Sports Psychology, I possess a deep understanding of the vital role psychology plays in the game of chess. With this expertise, I am uniquely equipped to assist you in setting optimal goals, addressing concentration challenges, and resolving any other psychological obstacles that may arise within the realm of chess. Furthermore, my dissertation titled "What is the usage and perceived efficacy of basic psychological skills amongst chess FIDE-titled players and amateur players?" reflects my dedication to exploring the utilisation and perceived effectiveness of fundamental psychological skills among both FIDE-titled players and amateur enthusiasts.

Best skills

As a dedicated chess coach, I strive to simplify intricate thinking processes by breaking them down into manageable steps for my students. Through careful analysis of their games, I identify areas that require attention and provide insightful guidance on how to improve. Moreover, I find great fulfilment in motivating and inspiring my students, fostering their drive to continually enhance their skills. By focusing on these fundamental coaching skills, I aim to empower students to develop a deeper understanding of the game and unlock their true potential on the chessboard.

Teaching methodology

My coaching philosophy revolves around creating a supportive and personalised learning environment tailored to your specific needs and aspirations. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, I'm here to guide you in developing your strategic thinking, tactical prowess, and mental resilience. By analysing your own games, we gain valuable insights into your decision-making process, identify patterns, and highlight areas for improvement. This self-reflection fosters self-awareness, enhances critical thinking skills, and ensures a targeted approach to addressing your individual needs, unlocking your potential in chess.
