Is there a highest tier of uapproachable quality of a few bands in rock music?

There's Led Zeppelin, and then there's the rest.

Among the rest, surely the Rolling Stones must be quickly included. And, to demonstrate understanding, don't forget to include Cream. And the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

And what about the Who and the Doors.

Pink Floyd is not at all a foolish mention. Nor is the Grateful Dead.

Let's throw in the Ramones and Zappa and the Mothers of Invention and Los Tigres del Norte, to spice things up.

Okay, the Beatles did have a certain range, admittedly.

Of course, jazz and classical deserve their own lists of true greats. But I don't want to type for days. And it might take days to mention them all.

And then there's Country (and Western).

And then there's whatever we should label Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer. One of the best musical pairs in history. Folk? Folk/rock?

And what do we call the brilliant Tom Waits?

This is inexhaustible.
It became (nearly) inexhaustible when I began to think about other genres @NaturalBornTraveller. Did you notice those? Jazz. Classical. Folk. Country. We could build such lists for a long time.

It was merely exhausting if we stick to rock and roll alone.

There have been a great number of truly fine musicians in history. Remember, they can be compared to a million garage bands. If we know their names, they're pretty remarkable groups.
@Noflaps my point exactly.
To elevate someone up to an unapproachable lever, putting them high on a pedestal, and say, no one but you can sit so high on this pedestal.
And then the musicians look around, and see that there is an abounding amount of pedestals, as high as their own.
Even a few new ones being raised, to accommodate the up-and-coming talents.

I can't help but remembering a Shakespearean line from his play Julius Caesar.
After Caesar was killed, Marc Anthony cries out
"Here was a Caesar, when comes such another"

(Sorry for the spoiler, yes Caesar dies in that play, not often a lead character dies is Shakespeare's play, besides from Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet.

No argument.
